2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Follows Mixed Feedback
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a more defined direction.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
The news echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire message from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all excited to keep observing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.
David

"Take on the competition with new abilities, challenges, and tests that shift every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as creation progresses.
